It encompassess 650 kilometres of piste and has 230 lifts. There are 12 resorts, 7 in France and 5 in Switzerland, joined together by a comprehensive lift network all skiable on the Portes du Soleil lift pass. There are many, varied runs for all abilities from beginners to intermediates, advanced and snowboarders.
Morzine is at the heart of the Portes du Soleil, the largest Ski Area in the World
For beginners, the various British Ski & Snowboard Schools in Morzine-Avoriaz with their small class sizes will be able to help build your confidence and ability on gentle tree lined slopes.
In front of the chalet, down the Pointe du Nyon and Chamossière there is some challenging off piste skiing and steep mogul pistes. If you are feeling brave, there is always the notorious 'Wall' where the initial angle of descent makes it impossible to see what lies ahead taking you over into the Swiss sector.
Avoriaz 1800 was the first resort in Europe to build a half-pipe and is recognised as one of the worlds major snowboarding centres. There is an immense variety of on and off piste terrain, as well as half pipes and several board parks across the Portes du Soleil, including a micro-park for children. Avoriaz averages 26 feet, 7.9 metres of snowfall each season which is the highest in France and the 5th highest in the whole of Europe.
